Not every product fits in every store. Quirky glass Christmas ornaments work wonders on one counter and do nothing on another. Being honest about which side you're on will save you a box gathering dust.
Where it works
Gift shops, concept stores, home decor stores with a unique taste, delicatessens, coffee bars with a retail corner. Places where people come in to find something nice, not to check off a shopping list. If your customer is the type who looks for a gift with a wink and is willing to spend fifteen euros on it, then this bauble will do well in your store.
Stores looking for something that distinguishes their assortment from the chain down the street are also a good fit. A recognizable, Dutch design does exactly that.
Where it doesn't work
If you have a classic Christmas store where people come for the complete red-and-gold tree, this will clash. If your store runs on the absolute cheapest price, a fifteen-euro product with a margin won't fit in. And a purely functional store without a gift corner will have little use for it. That's not a criticism of your store, it's just a different customer.
Are you in doubt?
Look at your best-selling gift item from last year. Was it around ten to twenty euros, and did people often buy more than one? Then you're in the right segment. The designs, from fatbike to doner kebab, will do the rest of the work in the display window.
