The cheapest advertising you have is the phone in your customer's hand. But people don't photograph a red bauble number forty. They photograph something they think: I have to show this.
What is and isn't photographed
A standard Christmas item disappears in the stream. A glass bauble in the shape of a can of beer or an energy drink does not. That's the kind of image someone takes a picture of and throws into the group chat with the question: should I buy this or not. That message is advertising for your store, and it costs you nothing.
The designs work precisely because they are recognizable. Everyone knows the fat bike, the frikandelbroodje (sausage roll), the doner roll. Recognition is exactly what people share.
Give the photo a place to be taken
Don't hide the baubles among other stuff. Hang a few up with some space around them, at a height where a phone can easily reach. A small sign with your store name in view ensures that the photo also leads back to you. Whoever sees the photo knows where it is located.
It extends to your own channels
You don't have to do much yourself. Take one good photo of the shelf for your own Instagram or shop window story, and let the customers do the rest. One special product gives you weeks of content without having to come up with something new every day. That's the difference between an item that only generates sales and an item that also generates reach.
